The Louvre has just hosted its very first French Met Gala In charity event honoring both art and fashion
Last night, as Paris Fashion Week was in full swing, the Louvre hosted a completely different kind of runway show. The first edition of the Grand Louvre Dinner, also known as the "French Met Gala," took place at France's most famous museum, welcoming a lineup of international celebrities dressed to the nines. But before we dive into the fashion highlights of the evening, what exactly is the Grand Louvre Dinner? The event aligns with several initiatives launched by the Louvre to raise funds for the museum, such as Louvre Couture, Objets d’art, objets de mode, the institution’s very first fashion-focused exhibition. Featuring over a hundred designs and accessories spanning more than six decades and created by 45 different fashion houses and designers from around the world, the exhibition, which opened in late January and runs until July 21, is already proving to be a massive success. That success was just a preview of what awaited the Louvre for its March 4 gala night.
Tickets for the prestigious gala sold out instantly, snapped up by patrons as well as fashion and jewelry houses that dressed the stars who had the honor of dining in the very heart of the museum. Among the lucky attendees were major stars of the Francophone world, such as Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, stunning in a black Balenciaga gown, Virginie Efira, effortlessly elegant in Saint Laurent, and Charlotte Casiraghi, dressed in Chanel. But France wasn't the only one shining last night—top international celebrities from all industries also graced the museum and its heritage. Kelly Rutherford, the epitome of elegance, wore a long white gown with voluminous shoulders by Vetements, while Gigi Hadid channeled a blonde Jessica Rabbit in a strapless Jeremy Scott dress. However, the true showstopper of the evening was Doechii, breathtaking in Valentino Couture, donning a striking high-neck, long-sleeved yellow gown from Alessandro Michele’s latest collection for the Roman Maison, just unveiled at Paris Fashion Week. This event not only allowed the museum to raise over one million euros but also gave Paris the chance to shine and celebrate just as much as New York’s pop culture elite does every first Monday of May. Will there be a second edition of this French-made Met Gala? Stay tuned.
