#1 What is it like being a female DJ/Producer in an industry primarily dominated by men?
I get asked this question in almost every interview I do, and I always have a different answer for this... My answer to this is always evolving, which I think is a good sign that things are changing in the industry. I still think it goes without saying that a woman will have to work 300 times as hard as a man, for the terrible venue manager moonlighting as the sound guy with zero experience to come up to her at a gig and say, "Sweetie, let me help you with that". I try to use the stigma of a "girl Dj who got the gig because she looks cute" to my advantage. I worked really hard to get to where I am, and if people want to underestimate me... then they're in for a surprise! It's funny people always think they're giving you a compliment after gigs like "wow you really surprised me" or "you're actually really good" - and it's like, well that's your bad for stereotyping me because I'm a woman.
#2 Your song Mouth subtly refers to oral sex - why did you choose to focus on this subject?
The song is definitely about ORAL SEX ;) but for me, it's little deeper than that. It's really about being unapologetic for what you want. Especially as a woman, there's such a cliche that you have to fulfill this expectation, that a patriarchal society has imposed on us... and you know what that's bullshit. It's 2017. We need to stop shaming women for having wants and needs.
#3 Are you a sexual person? How would you describe your sexuality?
Yes!!! But I'm going to leave it there because I don't think that I could define it by words.
#4 Describe the relationship between your sexuality and your music. How do they influence each other?
Sex & music are the 2 universal languages of the world, that transcend every barrier. So in a sense, they coexist in a symbiotic relationship, and to me, sex is music and vice versa.
stay pervy!
