Tommy Hilfiger and '47 collaborate on a basketball-inspired capsule collection A new celebration of the USA aesthetic and the role of basketball in uniting different generations
Tommy Hilfiger collaborated with ’47, one of the leading global names in sports accessories, on a limited-edition capsule collection featuring five basketball-inspired caps. The collection, which was released today, seamlessly blends the timeless American preppy aesthetic of Tommy Hilfiger with basketball’s rich history, celebrating the connection between fashion and sports while paying tribute to the influence both brands have had in shaping cultural landscapes. The origins of this collaboration trace back to Tommy Hilfiger’s enduring passion for sports aesthetics, rooted in his childhood love for team uniforms.
Hilfiger first introduced basketball-inspired design elements into his collections in the 1990s, during a time when basketball was becoming a cultural phenomenon that extended beyond the court. As basketball gained prominence in streetwear culture, Tommy Hilfiger’s designs – characterized by oversized varsity jackets, bold color-blocking, and athletic influences – captured the spirit of that era. NBA players and pop icons embraced the brand, cementing its position at the intersection of sports and fashion. This capsule revisits that connection, reimagining classic team merchandise with a modern and sophisticated twist. To mark the launch of the collaboration, nss magazine shot a dedicated editorial celebrating Tommy Hilfiger's preppy aesthetic combined with the distinctive codes of collegiate basketball.
The capsule will be soon available through various channels, including select Tommy Hilfiger stores, tommy.com, 47brand.com, nbastore.com, and global wholesalers.
